Program Features SchoolMessenger’s Talk About It Anonymous Communication Service to Dramatically Reduce Bullying
SchoolMessenger, the leading provider of communication solutions for education, today announced that Round Rock ISD’s Canyon Vista Middle School, located in Austin, TX received the 2012 National Exemplary Bullying Prevention Program Award for a program that dramatically reduced bullying incidents. One component of the school’s initiative included SchoolMessenger’s Talk About It®, an anonymous communication service which encourages students to ‘speak up’ using text and online messaging to report threats or problems to trusted faculty and staff.
Talk About It is a preventative service that allows faculty to meet students where they are – online and with text messaging. If a problem or threat should arise, students are empowered to send an anonymous message to a trusted school staff member to alert them. Because their communication can be relayed anonymously, it allows students to begin a confidential, two-way dialogue that can lead to immediate and actionable results. The use of text messaging and email – largely ubiquitous among today’s students – also reduces the stigma of being seen reaching out to a counselor or faculty member or ‘snitching’ on a fellow student.
“We are very proud to congratulate Canyon Vista Middle School for its pioneering efforts in the area of bullying prevention,” said Carter B. Myers, vice president of Anonymous Communication Solutions at SchoolMessenger. “The school was among the first in the nation to adopt Talk About It as a way of empowering its students. By placing our service in their hands, and allowing them to confidentially confide in a trusted adult, they have been able to prevent or resolve a number of issues that may not have otherwise had a way to surface.”
Talk About It is now available as an on-demand solution to all schools and districts, regardless of the notification service they employ.
